SELF DIRECTED FINAL PROJECT
DUE: November 26th, 8:00 a.m.: 1st critique part 1: 10, 8x10 prints, sequenced and due.
DUE: December 10th, 8:00 a.m.: 10 sequenced photographs that are DRY MOUNTED and an artist statement are due at the Beginning of class.
OVERVIEW:
Create a group of 10 photographs that relate to each other as a series. Write an artist statement to accompany the project. This is a two part critique. Be prepared to return to make more pictures after the first critique. Final images must be DRY MOUNTED on Matboard.
OBJECTIVES:
Create a concept for a group of photographs. Think about making the aesthetics of the images work with the concept. Think about the visual voice the you borrowed from the famous artists in the last assignment. Think about developing a style that is all your own. This is your idea, your project, so think about something you’d be excited about!
Also, very important, this is a two part assignment. CHOOSE A PROJECT YOU CAN RETURN TO! No project will receive an A that doesn’t bring in new photos to the final critique.
The idea should feel carefully considered and should be something that you are very interested in.
Take A LOT of photographs. The more you take the better selection you will have to choose from. Edit the strongest 8 photographs.
Eliminate redundancies and photographs with technical problems. At this point, no final images should have technical problems.
Consider sequencing, no projects should be turned in without a considered order.
Project will be graded on:
strength of project concept (your idea)
strength of group (do the images feel like they belong together. Do any feel repetitive? Does the order they are presented in feel carefully considered?)
Aesthetics of images (are they interesting? Visually pleasing? Have a strong emotional quality? Does the appearance of the images make sense with the concept?)
Technique (Do any have major technical problems? Do the images feel intentional? Is the artist in control of their medium?)
Effort: pretty self explanatory
Artist Statement: 2 to 3 cohesive paragraphs
